annual dance conference

The OH5 Annual Dance Conference is a consortial program that brings together dance students and faculty from its member institutions: Denison University, Kenyon College, Oberlin College, Ohio Wesleyan University, and The College of Wooster. The conference fosters idea-sharing and networking, strengthening the OH5 dance community. It offers a full day of workshops, performances, and opportunities for students and faculty to share their work, exchange ideas, and become acquainted as colleagues.

The inaugural one-day dance gathering was held at Oberlin College in February 2014 and has continued annually with rotating hosting institutions and the efforts of the OH5 dance department chairs and faculty.

Program Details

The OH5 annual dance conference program serves as a source for the development, enrichment, and networking of both students and faculty within the liberal arts dance community.  Its primary purpose is to foster a collaborative environment for students and faculty of the Five Colleges of Ohio consortium, which includes five small liberal arts colleges located in rural areas of Ohio.  Participants can showcase their work, share innovative ideas, and establish professional relationships as colleagues. This initiative celebrates the art of dance and promotes a culture of continuous learning and mutual support among student dancers and educators alike.

The program is designed to include a variety of performances, workshops, and engagement activities that cater to a wide range of interests and skill levels.  By participating, students have the unique opportunity to learn new techniques and methods, expanding their repertoire and enhancing their own practice.  Faculty members benefit from the exchange of pedagogical strategies and the latest trends in dance, enriching their teaching methodologies and creative processes.

The conference acts as a vibrant platform for networking, enabling participants to connect with like-minded individuals and organizations. These connections can lead to additional collaborations, opportunities for professional development, and a strengthened sense of community within the field of dance.  The OH5 annual dance conference program is a comprehensive initiative that advances the art form and nurtures the growth and connectivity of its participants.
