Connecting Ohio Five Students to Opportunity Through Collaboration

The Five Colleges of Ohio leverages the collective strengths of its member institutions to expand student access to internships, undergraduate research, professional development, and graduate education across diverse fields.

A cornerstone of this work is the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) with The Ohio State University. Since 2018, this exclusive, 10-week paid program has provided Ohio Five students with faculty-mentored research opportunities in STEM and public health, preparing them for graduate study and research careers.

Ohio Five recently announced a new collaboration with the Partnership for Public Service to offer the Future Leaders in Public Service Internship Program beginning in summer 2027. Open to all majors, the program provides paid government internships, professional development, mentoring, and networking opportunities.

Additional partnerships with the Air Force Civilian Services (AFCS), Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), and Progressive Insurance connect students with internships and career exploration across science, technology, engineering, business, public service, and more.

Through a renewed relationship with Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management, graduate pathway opportunities are being expanded to specialized master’s programs. The collaboration also includes a cross-campus case competition in development with Oberlin College as the inaugural host, offering students from all majors opportunities to tackle real-world business challenges, build practical skills, and connect with industry professionals.

Together, these partnerships demonstrate the power of consortium-wide collaboration to expand student opportunities, strengthen connections between education and careers, and open pathways to student success.
