The Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at The College of Wooster invites applications for a three-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics to start in August 2020. The department has twelve full-time faculty, and offers majors in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistical & Data Sciences, graduating approximately 40 seniors each year. We place a strong emphasis on experiential learning, with every student completing a year-long senior thesis project and many participating in our unique Applied Methods & Research Experience summer consulting program.
We are especially interested in hiring faculty who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service. The College of Wooster enrolls a diverse student body (21% domestic students of color and 15% international students); all applicants are expected to discuss their experience working with diverse student populations.
The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of six courses annually, which includes credited mentoring of senior thesis projects as part of the College’s Independent Study program along with introductory and advanced classes. Applicants with a Ph.D. in any mathematical subfield are welcome, including interdisciplinary areas that fit with either of our other majors.
Applicants should submit a letter of application; curriculum vitae; unofficial graduate transcripts; teaching philosophy statement; research statement; diversity statement; and three reference letters through MathJobs.org. The diversity statement should detail how the applicant has engaged and/or expects to engage with issues of diversity and inclusion in the classroom and curriculum, as well as on campus and/or broader community. Questions concerning the search process can be addressed to Drew Pasteur, Chair, at email@example.com. Review of applications will begin on January 21, 2020.
