The Department of Botany and Microbiology invites applications for a tenure track position in Microbiology at the Assistant Professor level beginning in August, 2020. The teaching duties for this position include the areas of Bacterial Physiology, Medical Microbiology, and Molecular Genetics, as well as seminars, independent study courses, and other courses as required. Ohio Wesleyan University is one of only a few small colleges throughout the country to offer a major in Microbiology, and has excellent infrastructure for teaching and research with microorganisms. OWU seeks faculty members committed to teaching excellence and to developing a vibrant research program that involves undergraduates at every level. The successful candidate will join a community of more than 13 faculty members with a wide range of research and teaching interests across the life sciences, and will benefit from extensive support for junior faculty, including competitive professional development funding, pre-tenure research leave after a successful third-year review, funding for student-faculty research collaboration, and a range of workshops and mentoring programs.
Ph.D. in Microbiology or related field, though ABD candidates will be considered;
Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts context, as well as expertise in issues related to diversity, broadly defined;
Evidence of professional activity including publications and an active research program;
Previous teaching at the university/college level strongly preferred;
Strong commitment to teaching effectiveness demonstrated through syllabi, course evaluations, peer observations, etc.
