Job Description

The Ohio Wesleyan Department of Theatre & Dance invites applicants for a PhD Theatre Historian to teach all levels of Theatre History/Literature classes at the tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor level to begin fall semester of 2020.

Background/Interest in World Theatre and research with an interdisciplinary focus that demonstrates a global perspective preferred. Evidence of directing experience required.  The candidate must provide promising research potential, strong teaching abilities and a commitment to active participation in our production season.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teach up to 3 courses per semester in Theatre History/Dramatic Literature and an introductory Theatre course for non-majors.

  • Potentially direct one university production annually.

  • Supervise student projects and serve as an Academic Advisor.

  • Engage in personal research, publishing and scholarship as well as serve as departmental dramaturg as needed.

  • Contribute to departmental and university committees.


  • PhD in Theatre History.

  • Previous teaching at the university/college level strongly preferred.

  • Evidence of previous directing and research at the university/college level or professional theatre strongly preferred.
